Things You Missed During My Hiatus

I have been swamped in the last week with family activities and writing the "Through It All' post.  I haven't had much time at all to see any movies - not even Netflix on Wii.  "Up in the Air" starring George Clooney came in the mail, but I haven't had a chance to watch it yet.  I may use it to test out a new idea for Movie Monday.  I'm going to be MIA again the rest of this week, but I will try to post as much as I can about my activities in the coming days.
Read more below and see photos...

Since I don't have a movie to review or Aroma Wednesday again this week, I'll update you on what's been going on in the Burney abode:

Natural Born Austin:
I finally talked Austin into going natural and letting go of the perm.  She was reluctant for a while, but she finally gave in around October 2010.  She has a good amount of new growth that's forming some really cute little ringlets, but until she's ready for her natural debut; it's just me, some good flat irons and Blue Magic Coconut Oil keeping it straight and manageable.  Click here to see how I make it happen.

King's Bean Project:

Last Saturday, I opened the patio blinds and almost jumped over the couch.  I never know what Kingston is going to bring in or around the house.  I thought this was a lizard or a frog in a bag, but it turned out to be his school bean project.  "This is a lima bean being nourished by the sun," he said.  But I don't think it made it to see another day of sunshine.

He tried again - this time in these pots.  They have grown a lot in just a few days.  He told me I'm going to have a lot of lima beans to eat. Didn't want to burst his little happy bubble, but I don't like them.  I'm glad he's enjoying the project, though.  :-)

This is his cactus that he planted about a month ago.  It's still thriving.

One big happy family. Apparently, King had a black bean, a kidney bean and a pinto bean that he couldn't find.  Turns out Austin planted them in the big planter on the right.  I"ll keep you posted on the progress.  It's going to be magical around the Burney house real soon.
 Asia's Prom
My niece, Asia (in red), went to her prom last Saturday.  Her Aunt Chanda (my SIL) helped her pick out her dress

....and let her borrow her car to ride to the prom in style with her friends.  I guess going with a date is old school.

With little sister, Alayna.
...and Austin

Must-have pic with dad.

This was a popular place in the community to take pictures.  There was a line for the bridge shot.

And we thought we would be the only family out there taking pictures before the prom.

It's the perfect spot to take pictures any day.
...more scenery

Daddy says goodbye to his baby girl, who will be leaving home soon for college at FAMU.
