A THRIFTY GIRL'S HEAVEN!

Before there was a fashionista or bargainista, there was an even fancier term - bargain hunter!  Google it and you'll find my name and picture in the Wikipedia stats box. Among the highlights: thousands of dollars saved; hundreds of unique finds and countless great deals.

GETTING PAST IT AND MOVING ON...

I guess you're wondering what happened to #1 in the Thanksgiving Birthday Countdown.  Well, if you've read the Hold Up, Wait a Minute post, you know that the last ten days leading up to Thanksgiving were non-stop busy.  But I was still determined to finish the countdown.  We arrived at our Thanksgiving celebration destination on Wednesday night.  I stayed up all night finishing the countdown.

#2 Thankful for the best MIL Ever!

I couldn't ask for a better mother-in-law.  Dawn Jenkins has been there for me and her son since day one, supporting us and lifting us up whenever we need a little motivation to keep going.

HOLD UP!!! WAIT A MINUTE!!!

Let me stop this countdown for a minute!  I need to apologize for getting all the way down to the single digits, and dropping the ball.  Since last Thursday, I have been going nonstop...cooking a big Sunday dinner for the family, including my in-laws...and then crashing; driving to and from Mississippi in a day...and then crashing; while on the MS trip, made plans for dinner and a movie with friends...did that...then crashed.

10 THANKFUL FOR MY LIL' BRO

Today, NOVEMBER 15, 2011 - #10  in the Thanksgiving Birthday Countdown -  is my little brother's birthday.  Zermon Drummond is 35 years old today.  He is very special to me and I love him very much.  That's why I've decided to ALLOW him to have ONE day in MY special birthday month countdown.  He's such a pesky little brother, too.  Although he has this straight and narrow, mechanical engineer demeanor; he is very playful and a practical joker.   In other words, he is to me what King is to Austin.

11 THANKFUL FOR THE AIR I BREATHE

After a wonderful, long weekend (thanks to Veterans Day + 1), I rolled out of bed this morning clinging to my pillow. Yes, Mondays are always hard, but I'm alive and well.  So today, I'm thankful for the air I breathe.

12 THANKFUL FOR COURAGE

Yesterday, I planted my fingers on my keyboard and started to type the number 13 in preparation for my next thankful post.  As I reached for the mouse to position my cursor, I felt a slight hesitation.  It was a fear that came over me that I didn't see or know was coming.   It was a little voice in the back of my head that said, "You're rushing this month right on to the end just because it's your birthday. You have no idea what's on the other side of 39."  That voice is something I call fear.

13 THANKFUL FOR A SAFE AND VICTORIOUS FOOTBALL SEASON

13!!! We're almost there!!!
-I'm thankful to God for watching over Kingston and the Oakleaf Knights Football team this season.  The season is finally over.  It started back in July, and it's been four long months of practice and Saturday morning games.

14 So Thankful For Those Who Serve...

14!!! Veterans Day!!

-Some froze to death.  Some starved to death.  They all fought to the death for our freedom.  To the true angels of God- past and present - I am so thankful.

16 Thankful For Breakfast at Dinner Time!

16 days to go!!!

-Yes, I'm thankful for pancakes, eggs, bacon and homefries. That was our dinner Tuesday night.  The night before, I walked in the door from work and went straight to the kitchen to start dinner.  You know me.  I'm a firm believer in a 30-minute meal.  I've had my card pulled plenty of times for being a southern girl who doesn't cook big Sunday dinners or soul food.

18 & 17 Thankful For My Job and a Rap Legend Gone Too Soon...

-So IOU one..
Yesterday, Monday - was the 18th day in the Thanksgiving Birthday Countdown.  After a great weekend, it's always so hard to get up on Monday morning to get ready for work.  But right now, with a new mayor in office and a reorganization underway, I'm glad to have a job to get up for every morning.  I've never been through this experience before, and while it's an interesting process to watch unfold; I sympathize with all the employees who have lost their jobs.

20 Thankful for the Word of God...

...that guides me through this life.   God always has His hands on us; and if we listen to "the voice," or the Holy Spirit inside of us; it could keep us from doing things we could regret later.
Sometimes, it may be something completely innocent that you feel is good, but it may be outside the will of God.  Take for example this 24-day countdown challenge I've taken upon myself.  I started to panic about not having something to post EVERYDAY.

21 - SO THANKFUL FOR LON'S SAFE RETURN!

21 DAYS TO GO!!!
-Tonight, I'm very thankful for Lon's safe return home.  He has been working from his company's office in Dallas this week.  Let me tell you...what a week it has been!  No sleep whatsoever!  But God is good!  We all got through it.  He protected Lon, in all of his curiosity, walking and driving all over Dallas on a mission.  That mission was to gather as much information as possible to sell me and the kids on moving.

22 - Thankful For My Little Helper!

  22!!!

-Today, I'm so thankful that when I'm stretched to my limit, Austin steps in to help out.

We'll talk about the outfit later.

23 - Thankful For The Best Mom Ever!

23 More Days!!!
 - I'm thankful to God for allowing my mother to see 60 years on this earth.  She's going to kill me for putting her business in the streets, but Irene Leslie is the best mother a girl could ever ask for. I would be crazy not to include this memorable moment.

24 - Thankful For My Family

24!!!

A Countdown to Thanksgiving...With a Purpose!

Fall is in the air!!!   Yes, I know.  The beginning of the cozy season starts in September, but in Florida, you don't start feeling it until about November.  There's a little nip in the air, and you can almost smell the warmth of pumpkin spice or a delicious sweet potato pie in the air.

A Really, I Am Moment: New-Age Moms Make Me Burp!

Any Sanford and Son fans out there?  I'm asking because I want to make sure you understand when I say some things in life just give me gas!  If Fred Sanford didn't like something, his excuse was because it gave him gas or made him burp.  I've kind of adopted the phrase for stupid stuff that people do.  And in this Really, I Am rant, I'm targeting moms.

Update on New Designs

As you know, I've been testing out some of the new designs from Blogger.  I've decided to stick with my own design for now.  I think a little more work has to be done to perfect the new designs.  I loose a lot of my tools and gadgets with the new designs, and there are some things that I don't want displayed that are showing up.

So it's back to my original look...all warm and fuzzy Fall colors!  Enjoy!

...On to a New Design

I promised to let you know when I changed the design.  I wasn't feeling Flipcard view, so I decided to switch to Snapshot.  Let me know what you think!

SOMETHING'S DIFFERENT....

Well, after I spent weeks revamping the look of the blog, Blogger has enticed me with 7 new designs.  I have picked out my top 4 favs.  This week's choice is the Flipcard view. I will be testing it out for the next few weeks.  I'll let you know when the design changes, but they're so distinctly different that you'll notice right off the bat.   I would ask for input, but I know how shy my readers are.  You guys never leave comments or use the easy reaction buttons at the end of each posts.  But it's all good, though.  I have my ways of finding out what you like. *wink*
I thought this would be a good time to tell you which posts are getting the most views.  I think all of the posts are interesting reads, including my favorite, The House That Built Me.  Then again, I'm a little biased.  Here's a look at the top 10 posts on Diary of a Happy Mom:

BTW...THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS HELPED ME REACH OVER 1500 PAGE VIEWS!!!
BIG HUGS AND KISSES TO READERS IN THE UK, RUSSIA, LATVIA AND GERMANY WHO CONTINUED TO READ POSTS WHEN I WASN'T WRITING MUCH OVER THE SUMMER.  I'M THRILLED AND I WILL CONTINUE DOING THIS AS LONG AS YOU WANT TO READ ABOUT MY CRAZY LIFE.  THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO COME! SMOOCHES!!

So You Wanna Fight, Huh??

Then we'll do it my way! I am so sick of the kids fighting about everything! Don't get me wrong.  They are great children, individually; but together they are enough to drive me mad! Again, it the reason why the blog title ends with a "Really I Am."

Summer Recap....

School is in full force now.  Austin and King actually brought home progress reports a couple of days ago; and I'm proud to say out of 10 classes between them,  there was only one C!!  Wanna guess who got the C and in what subject?  Yep!  Kingston...and reading.  The boy hates to read, but he's off to a good start this year overall.  We're just encouraging him to stay focused and to do his best.

So, I'm finally back...

...for good this time.  We finally got our second computer all hooked up and ready to go.  Now we can say that we are a Mac and a PC family.  No choices to make there.  I do wish, however; that I could reverse the decision to turn my family room into command central. Lon's desk is on one wall and mine is on the adjacent wall.  Were it not for the bookshelf standing between our spaces, our desks would make the perfect "L" shape.

But this setup is anything but perfect.  Neither of us has been getting much work done. Lon's favorite three-liner is, "Look at this!"  Not a second later am I expected to turn my big comfy chair around (messing up some serious chill time) and look at...something ridiculous on his Facebook page.

I guess I can't talk.  Since the PC has been set up, I've been working on a new look for DHM. Every time I change the color or the design,  I'll turn and ask, "Wha'cha think about this?" He flips up a big fake thumb-ups and goes back to whatever he's working on.  So our perfect little setup...ain't so perfect.  Simply put - we get on each other's nerves.

Funny, though, how nothing beats those times when we're actually working and being productive. The kids are hanging out with their friends and there are no interruptions  - and we actually bounce some really great ideas off each other. That makes it all worth it.

So, I'm whipping myself back into shape and getting DHM ready.  New recipes, movie reviews, and recaps on my favorite prime-time shows are in store. That, and all the latest happenings with the Burney's!

Not Quite Back Yet...

I finally got a minute of time to myself to post a few words.  It's been quite a busy summer.  I thought once the kids were out of school things would be easier.  I was wrong.  It just meant a messier house to clean, more trips to the grocery store, more clothes to wash and more brain power to find things to keep them busy - and from killing each other.  Kingston started washing dishes - alone - this summer.  All the fights about who's night it is and who had the most dishes to wash is funny and frustrating at the same time.

When the Cat's Away...

Just a little sad and disappointed tonight.   Sad because my children are gone on a mini summer vacay to South Florida.  My SIL, Chanda, spent the weekend in town for my newest nephew's baby shower.  She swooped up Austin and King in the middle of the day while we were at work yesterday.  Now, they're living large and chilling on the beach.

Movie Monday: To Be Or Not To Be...Transformed

Let me start with a disclaimer: I am not a big fan of action movies. This review will reflect that. Don’t get me wrong, I like them, but I can watch them or not watch them.  If I’m trying to spend time with Lon or Lon and kids, then I’ll sit through one.

Some of you may be wondering why I chose to do a blog, and why I keep putting all these posts on Facebook. It’s probably annoying.  I know…you can tell me.  Well, everything I mentioned in About Me and About DHM still applies, but I’m also doing it for other more personal reasons.

Freedom Is Not Free & Life Is Not Promised

I was up late last night writing an entry for today.  Before I went to sleep, I browsed my Facebook page.  Some of my high school classmates had posted a story about a Memphis officer who had been killed in the line of duty.  It scared me that the article was posted by a couple of different people.

Celebrating Love Today: The Story of Kim

We are finally home after a very long day.  I helped Lon shoot the wedding I told you about yesterday.  It was the ceremony of a longtime family friend, Kim Jackson and her now husband, Sean Way.  You may recall I went to her bridal shower (#4) a couple of weeks ago.  We've known Kim since Austin was a knee-high to a junebug.  She's the close friend of my SILs, Chanda and Nicole.

What's Been Cooking

Finally, a night alone to catch up on a few things on my "To Do" list. The kids are with friends and Lon is at a wedding rehearsal.  He will be doing the whole production tomorrow - photos and the video..with help, of course.  He'll be so focused on getting ready for the event tomorrow that he won't even notice that I'm hogging the computer.  I've got to do as much blogging as I can because after the wedding, he will be glued to the computer editing and being his own worst critic.

Movie Monday: Australia

“I sing you to me.”  It’s my new favorite phrase after watching the movie “Australia.”  The movie centers around a blossoming love story between a man and woman; man and cattle; and a forbidden love for our Aboriginal narrator, Nullah. There are so many facets to this story, but you will instantly fall in love this little boy. He steals the show.
“Australia” tells the story of a young, wealthy English woman who leaves her massive estate in England and heads down under to find out what’s going on with her family’s cattle business. The Ashleys seems to be running out of money, despite the fact that Lady Sarah Ashley’s husband spends almost all of his time on their property, Faraway Downs.

Sunday Inspirations: Lasting Memories From a Conversation on Grades

This is an old diary entry that I wrote a couple of years ago when I was thinking about starting the blog.  I originally posted it this past January , but then I took it down.  I'm not sure why.  But I think it's more relevant now for three reasons: Father's Day, end of school and Sunday Inspirations.  Lon is a great father.  He's not perfect, but he puts his whole heart into making sure his children are always learning something.  Dealing with Kingston's failing grades his first round of the third grade was difficult for him.
The post below is about a conversation we had on the way home from work one day during our carpooling days. I had been at my current job for about six months, and even though we were on the downside of a very difficult time; the effects were still present.  Seeing the kids' grades suffer, made me regret not quitting my previous job sooner than I did.  But Lon stepped in and helped give Kingston the confidence he needed to get back on track.  So a big Happy Father's Day to my husband and all the wonderful daddies out there.  You definitely make a difference in your child's life; therefore making the world a better place.
Oh, by the way, there's an update to the post at bottom of the page.
*****************************************************************************
A funny thing happened on the way home from work the other day.  My daughter, Austin, called to tell me and her dad that she had a surprise for us when we got home.  We knew it was report card day, so I asked if that was the surprise.  She laughed and said no.  I told her we couldn’t wait to hear all about it.

Tuesday Editorial: Are You a Yes Ma'am/No Ma'amer?

Depending on your answer, it could have an effect on how your children will perceive authority. I was listening to Steve Harvey this morning on my way to work. I turned on the radio in the middle of the conversation about respecting our elders. I think it was the topic for the question of the day, which was "Do you teach your children to say 'yes, ma'am' or 'yes, sir'?"  The caller said that she was not teaching her children to say it because she thought it originated from slavery. She said she wasn’t sure, but they could “educate” her if she was wrong. She said that she teaches them to say yes or no to anyone, especially their elders; however they are not required to add ma'am or sir.  Read more below...

Aroma Wednesday: Penne Pasta w/Turkey Italian Sausage!

Aroma Wednesday is back!  I've got a good one for you this week. It's a wonderful and welcomed change from spaghetti, mac n' cheese and American chop suey (Beefaroni).  It's fast...it's easy and it's so good that.... I don't have a name for it...  It's just a good pasta dish that if prepped in advance could be ready to eat in about 20 minutes.

The Golden Girls of Australia

When I tell people where I'm from, they usually look puzzled; and it never fails that the next question they ask is "Cleveland, Ohio?"  My next line already on the tip of my tongue, I say "No. Cleveland, Mississippi."  I then go into a detailed geographical spiel complete with my right hand motioning over the left side of my head to signify Northwest Mississippi.  If the puzzled look continues I pull out more popular pronouns like the Delta or Memphis, Tennessee, and that's when they finally get it.

Things You Missed During My Hiatus

I have been swamped in the last week with family activities and writing the "Through It All' post.  I haven't had much time at all to see any movies - not even Netflix on Wii.  "Up in the Air" starring George Clooney came in the mail, but I haven't had a chance to watch it yet.  I may use it to test out a new idea for Movie Monday.  I'm going to be MIA again the rest of this week, but I will try to post as much as I can about my activities in the coming days.

Sunday Inspirations: Through It All...

Sharing this story is going to be very hard for me.  I'm a very private person, and I would love to keep it to myself.  But how do you avoid doing what God has asked when all you want to do is keep it under wraps.  The answer is you simple can't avoid it.     If you have a true relationship with Jesus Christ, it would be hard to not heed his voice.  Lon and I went through a really rough patch in our marriage about six years ago, and God told me in the mist of it that it would be our testimony.

MIA

I know I've been missing in action this week, but I've been working on something very important.  I kind of went full speed ahead after "birthday season" adding Movie Monday and Aroma Wednesday.  But there was something still pricking me in the side that should've been the intro to the blog itself.  So I'm putting the finishing touches on a testimonial that I hope will be a blessing to people who may be in this situation right now.  It will also give you more background on where the Burney's have been, and help you understand where we're headed.

Just remember that when God blesses you and brings you through a storm, you must be ready and willing to tell people about it; or you risk God taking his hands off of you and leaving you to your own devices.  It's really hard for me to share, but I know God will get the glory and I'll feel better knowing I've helped at least one person in the process.

So stay tuned.  I will start fresh next week with Sunday Inspirations.

Movie Monday: Jumping the Broom

The next time you’re on Facebook, check out your friends’ Info page. I can almost bet you’ll find movies like “Love Jones”, “Love & Basketball” & “Best Man” on the list of their favorite movies. By the time you read this entry, they will have added Jumping the Broom to the list. It’s one of those movies you will want to see over and over again.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

This is a very special day for moms all around the world.  No matter the race, nationality, culture or differences; the thing that binds us all is motherhood.  As mothers, there are always little cute anecdote to share about our children.  My funny story about the start of my Mother's Day is about how I pictured it happening and how it actually went down.

Aroma Wednesday: Shrimp Pasta

Today, I'm sharing my recipe for Shrimp Pasta.  It's my own creation.  I wish I had a fancier name for it, but I don't.  The noodles are actually just thin spaghetti. Wheat only.  Every pasta strand, noodle or elbow and slice of bread or grain in the house is wheat or whole grain.  Oh, except for grits.  I love grits and cheese!  Anyway...here's how I put this 30-minute bowl-worthy dish together.

A Weekend For Celebrating: Life, Love & Freedom!

I know I started Movie Monday last week, but I didn't have a second of free time to spend in the movie theater this past weekend. Lon and I hopped in the car to go see "Fast Five." We got around the corner from the house before deciding we were too tired (and too old) for a 10 p.m. show.

One Special Little Boy: King's 10th Birthday Bash

The joke around the house about Kingston is that he is the "king" of the neighborhood.  He seems to be able to rally all of his friends together for a full day of play.  Austin always says if he's not outside, then no one is out.  But as soon as he steps one foot out the door, kids come out of the woodworks.  I should also mention that if King is not outside, then he's probably grounded for some reason.  We can take his cell phone or his video games, but if we want to hit him where it hurts, we make him stay in the house for a day or two.  It kills him!

Intro to Aroma Wednesday!

I love to cook.  I even think I love cooking the food just as much as I love eating it.  I used to take pride in cooking meals for my family every night.  Now that they are getting older (that includes Lon) and more independent, I don't have to cook as much anymore.  I have time now to experiment with different kinds of foods.

Sun Dresses in the Springtime: Austin's 15th Birthday

We celebrated Austin's birthday on Saturday, but I was too tired to post any updates.  Tonight is no different.  I'm still tired.
In a nutshell, Austin's grandmother (MIL) and I took her and four of her friends out on the town.  We hit up the Cheesecake Factory at the St. Johns Town Center where the girls stuffed themselves with a table full of appetizers and their choice of cheesecake.

MOVIE MONDAY: MADEA'S BIG HAPPY FAMILY

Baby-mama-drama, lies, secrets and laughter make for a hilarious Tyler Perry film.  “Madea’s Big Happy Family” will have you ROTFL so hard that your head will hurt.  Any time Madea is in one of TP’s movies, you can count on side-splitting laughter.  You can also bank on a mother, aunt, sister or cousin dealing with the craziness of her dysfunctional family.

Almost Abandoned At 15

I feel so bad.  I've been so busy today that I didn't even have time to celebrate my baby's birthday. Austin turned 15 years old today.  As it is accustomed in the Burney home, if your birthday is during the school/work week, you get a cake (or cupcakes) and one gift.  The big birthday bash is always held on Saturday.  But instead of the usual, I shipped my baby off to spend time with her cousins.

Lon's 40th Birthday: I Think I Got Him Good!

He still won't admit it, but I surprised him big time!  Lon thought his 40th birthday was over last Wednesday night when he blew out the flames on the two tie-dyed digits on his mini chocolate birthday cake.  He had no clue that I was still setting the wheels in motion for his surprise birthday dinner at his favorite restaurant, the Jacksonville Mill House or properly named the Mill House Steakhouse.

NO BIRTHDAY WISH FOR YOU!

Today is the official start of "birthday season" for me. On this exact day, next month, I will be wrapping up Kingston's birthday celebration and looking forward to a break.
This year, everyone is celebrating a milestone.  Lon is turning 40 on April 13th; Austin will be 15 on April 21st,  and Kingston will be 10 on May 2nd.  I'm so excited by the fact that they have this connection that I MUST act on it.
But of course, I'm already getting grief from Lon. He doesn't want me to do anything for him.  Now, what kind of wife and mother would I be if I didn't call all of his family and friends together to celebrate such a huge milestone?  I still can't believe I've known this man since he was a little scraggly boy.  I've got to do something.  I already know what I want to do - just got to set it in motion.  It won't be huge, but I refused to just let it be another day.  This is one birthday wish he won't be getting!
We argued about it the whole way home after a day of flea-market hunting and computer shopping with his mom.  I was going over all the details of the kids birthdays, which are about 10 days apart.  I went on and on, and he agreed with everything.  I closed out the conversation with "but first, I gotta get through your big day, " and that's when the music stopped.
He wants me to focus on the kids and worry about him later.  He reminded me that we still have two summer camps and football to pay for, which would be coming up right after "birthday season."  I totally understand where he's coming from, but I have a  plan to make it all work.  That's all I can say right now.
Stay tuned...

Random Spontaneous Evening

I had a pretty uneventful day yesterday.  I did the same thing I do everyday. I went to my second job.  I worked for five hours.  I ate lunch… and I worked some more.   It wasn't until I headed to my first job (taking care of my family) that all the excitement started to happen.

Just One Of Those Days

I have been having a really funky past couple of days.  I'll start with today and then back-track.  Lon and I took a couple of days off work to spend with the kids.  They are on spring break this week.  We got up early this morning and just took our time getting ready to hang out for the day.  Lon did the some last minute work on a video project while I made breakfast.  Kingston had a friend stay over last night, so I wanted to make sure he had something to eat before shipping him off.

Blossoming Spring Cleaning

It was such a beautiful day on Saturday that we combined cleaning the garage with a little gardening.  Ok, so there was more gardening than garage cleaning.  Lon and I did a little shopping before we got started on the garage. Every where we went, we saw people buying plants and flowers for their yards.

Something About the Moon

So let me start by making a couple of corrections.  First, I said in my Saturday morning post, Spring Cleaning, that there was a full moon Friday night.  You know, the one I said must have put a spell on Lon to cause to help me clean the garage?  Apparently, there wasn't a full moon, but there was something special about it this weekend.

Spring Cleaning

I'm up early this morning.  I went to bed early on a Friday night.  That only happens once in a blue moon, and it was glowing bright last night.  I felt so rested that I thought I'd get up and write a little.  I guess it's best to get it done now since we have a busy day ahead.  We're cleaning the garage and getting some other Spring cleaning done.

A Productive Day

So I had a pretty productive day today.  I love it when the weather is nice on my day off.  I got an early start on my errand after dropping Kingston off at school this morning.  I refused to go back upstairs and climb into bed.  Every ounce of muscle in my body wanted to, but I fought it.

Making Time For Childhood Games

One of the proudest moment in my life can be summed up in two words. Go Fish! It was just one of the many games I taught my 8-year-old son to play one night after I persuaded him to put down his Nintendo DS for two seconds.

Rain, Rain, Stay All Day!

So today, I just needed a break! Yesterday after working my third 10-hour day, I decided that on my day off today, I would get everyone safely out of the house and then climb back into bed and watch movies all day.  My co-workers kept reminding me yesterday that it was going to be raining all day Thursday, implying that it would ruin my day off.  My reply to them was "That's perfect!"   There was no plan for a big fancy breakfast, no running errand - not even a shower.

Family Photoshoot in Eagles Landing

We had a great day today.  We finally got around to taking our family portraits.  It's funny that it took 15 years for us to take a family picture.  The reason it took so long is because I'm a control freak and a perfectionist.  I admit it.  The colors had to match perfectly - no randomness. I also didn't want cookie-cutter studio pictures. I definitely couldn't have pictures going out of my family looking tacky.  But the biggest reason of all is because I just don't like taking pictures.  It was never big on my list of things to do.

For the last 3 years, though, I've really wanted to take a family picture because the kids are growing up so fast.  I guess it was just the right time, especially since I'm working on that control-freak-perfectionist thing in 2011.  For the most part, we were color coordinated, and the weather was perfect for a location shoot. I guess I was just waiting for a photographer who could do a wonderful job capturing my family (plug Lon's photography business here).  :-)

I've Tweaked It Enough..

If it's true that we are our own worst critics, then it's also true that I will never get this blog up and running.  I've been working on it since the beginning of January.  I wanted to have it up before the month was over - you know, as sort of a New Years resolution.  I've had the idea for about year, but never acted on it.

So now I'm done tweaking and worrying about what people are going to think about my writing style or the blog itself.  It's a labor of love that I hope you will enjoy and follow.  I'm working on two other sections that I hope to have up in the coming weeks.

Take a look around and leave a comment if you want.  I'd love to hear what you think!

The House That Built Me

I love Miranda Lambert’s song “The House That Built Me”.   It pierced right through my heart the first time I heard it.  I'm guessing it must have touched so many others, too, because it was named the Country Music Awards Song of the Year a few months ago. I first heard the song about a year after I made a trip back home with my family in 2009.  I’ve lived in Florida for so long that I feel like I have no connection to my hometown of Cleveland, Mississippi.  The older I get, the more I think about how blessed I was as a child.
